MP Farid Boustani, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on National Economy, Industry, Trade, and Planning, accepted an invitation from Charles Arbid, President of the Economic, Social, and Environmental Council, to participate in a participatory dialogue with Minister of Industry Joe Issa Khoury. The meeting, titled "Lebanese Industry: Present Challenges and Future Opportunities," focused on the current state of the industrial sector and its prospects for development in the coming period.
Following the meeting, Boustani emphasized "the importance of completing the necessary legislative and administrative framework to strengthen the free market economy and establish fair competition in Lebanon." He stressed "the need to expedite the formation of the National Competition Authority, which was approved by Parliament in 2020, given its fundamental role in combating monopolies, regulating markets, and protecting consumer rights."
He called for "the enactment of a modern consumer protection law," asserting that "building a competitive and sustainable economy cannot be achieved without laws and regulatory institutions to oversee markets, which are essential pillars of any serious economic reform."
He pointed to "the importance of reactivating the role of economic attachés in Lebanese diplomatic missions abroad, after their role declined during the past years," stressing that "benefiting from their expertise and international relations would contribute to supporting Lebanese exports, as well as attracting investments and opening new markets for national products."
