The General Assembly of the Economic and Social Council convened in the presence of Minister of Economy Mansour Bteich and Minister of Telecommunications Mohammad Choucair, as well as MPs Chawki Daccache and Fadi Alama, along with members of the Economic and Social Council.

After the meeting, Choucair confirmed that his attendance at the session of the General Assembly comes after the government has won the vote of confidence, emphasizing his belief in the essential role played by the Council, especially under the leadership of Chawki Arabid.

He added that citizens’ relief over the formation of the government should not make us forget the social and economic crisis affecting the Lebanese people, praising the role the Council can play as an inclusive body representing all segments of society in addressing any issues that may arise between productive forces.

Choucair also told Arabid that he would request the Council of Ministers to refer all social, economic, and environmental matters to the Economic and Social Council for its opinion.

He stressed that the government’s responsibility is to create job opportunities for Lebanese citizens, expressing hope that efforts will be united in the interest of the nation and its people, and that differences be set aside to accomplish this mission.

For his part, Minister of Economy Mansour Bteich stated that he was honored to have chaired the General Economic Affairs Committee within the Economic and Social Council, which represents the full fabric of society and succeeded in producing an economic paper addressing the economic, financial, monetary, and social challenges facing Lebanon. He noted that this paper received the approval of the Council’s General Assembly and confirmed that work on it will continue, along with the development of economic indicators in Lebanon.

Bteich also noted that the Council’s Economic Committee takes into account all proposals presented to it, emphasizing that the priority is to build a productive, dynamic, and human-centered national economy, alongside continuous dialogue between workers and business leaders.

Arabid expressed his satisfaction with the presence of the two ministers, who are also members of the Economic and Social Council, and voiced optimism about the formation of the government, which carries the slogan “To Work”, affirming the Council’s support for its efforts.

He added that the social dimension discussed during the General Assembly session with the ministers remains fundamental, alongside the economic dimension. He also highlighted the role played by Minister Bteich in preparing the economic study through the Council’s Economic Committee, which he chairs, and which was presented to the three top state authorities.

Arabid also stressed the importance of the telecommunications sector in the Lebanese economy and its relevance to citizens’ daily needs, praising Minister Mohammad Choucair and the role he is expected to play in improving this sector.

He confirmed the continued membership of Ministers Bteich and Choucair, as well as MPs Chawki Daccache and Fadi Alama, in the Economic and Social Council, expressing optimism about the role they will play both in government and parliament, and urging the government to refer any relevant economic, social, environmental, or cultural matters to the Council for its opinion.
